SPECIAL EDUCATION UNIT
The unit offers special care and training for students with a broad spectrum of disabilities. These include visually impaired students, deaf and hard of hearing students, physically challenged students, Albino and even students with multiple disabilities.
Students with Disabilities are attended by highly qualified and experienced special education teachers who are well equipped in Brailed machines such as Embosser, Perkins and typewriters, computers with JAWS – SOFTWARE, tape recorders wheel – chair and tricycle, Hearing Aids, sign language Dictionaries, scanners and White canes.
Hence students with various disabilities are well attended and their challenges are reduced.
Special education teachers are patient, understanding educators dedicated to giving each individual student the tools and guidance to help them maximize success.

Ms Mercy Hozza is the head, Special Education Unit
She is a senior transcriber in special education. She holds Bachelor of Education – Special Needs (Hons), Diploma in Special Education, Certificate of Special Education from Patandi TC and a Certificate of Teacher Education from Marangu TC
Benigno Kumpanga is a sign language interpreter; He is assistant to the Head Special Unit. He holds Bachelor of Education – Special Needs (Hons) from SEKOMU – Tanga, with English/Literature and special Education as teaching subjects, Diploma in Education Tabora Teachers College 2003.
Benigno Kumpanga is an experienced teacher, counselor and Educator for students with disabilities and Parents/Guardians with children with disabilities. He is an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.
The department of Educational Foundations, Management and Lifelong Learning (EFML) is among the two departments of the faculty of education together with the departments of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies. The department offers both undergraduate and post-graduate courses in educational foundations, education management and administration, organizational behavior and international education.

The department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies (EPCS) is among the two department under the Faculty of Education. The department offers both undergraduate and post-graduate courses in educational psychology, guidance and counseling, curriculum development and practicum. Courses in science and mathematics education, social sciences and language education as well as special education are offered at undergraduate level only.
The department also offers research and consultancy services in the fields of educational psychology, special education, science and mathematics education, social science and language education and curriculum development.
