Subilaga Kejo is a Lecturer of curriculum studies in the Department of Educational Psychology and Curriculum Studies at DUCE. The five years she had spent teaching young children led to her passion in Early Childhood Education and hence her decision to specialize on the area. Kejo received her B.A (Ed) and M.A (Ed) from the University of Dar Es salaam, in Tanzania in 1997 and 2006 respectively. She received her PhD from the University of Victoria in Canada, in 2017. Kejo’s PhD research explored pre-primary teachers’ beliefs and practices, with a focus on children’s play and its integration in teaching and learning. From the study she highlights the need for expansion of traditional notions of play in the particular context, and its role in education, as well as the use of traditional games and culturally meaningful materials in the curriculum. Kejo is a member of the Association for Childhood Education (ACEI). She is a member of the academic staff at DUCE since 2006. Kejo has also been involved in developing and reviewing curriculum materials for pre-primary education and for pre-primary teachers’ training.  Kejo strongly believes in the effectiveness of play in enhancing children’s learning.
